Manta Rays are amazing creatures and there are only a few places in the world where they naturally congregate. One of these rare spots - the cleaning station at Vurolevu - is only a five minute boat ride away from the resort.  

Pacific Manta Rays can have a wingspan of 12 feet or more, making them one of the largest residents of the reef. Watching these peaceful giants glide through the water is an unforgettable experience, especially when there are a dozen of them swimming around you!

The Astrolabe Reef is one of the undiscovered wonders of Fiji with vast gardens of coral and an incredible number of fish.  

 At Oneta we are very serious about snorkeling. In fact, it’s better to snorkel than dive in many areas of the untouched Astrolabe Reef. Colors are more vibrant close to the surface and you have plenty of time to observe the amazing reef creatures without worrying about running out of air.

Diving at the Astrolabe Reef is a world class experience. This incredible reef is a pristine and untouched world and water clarity is usually about 100m.  

We have a fantastic dive center with top of line gear, a superb dive instructor, and dive masters on site — and we provide all levels of dive certifications. 

Of course there are never any guarantees when it comes to fishing, but we have not met a fisherman yet who was disappointed after fishing with us. The ocean waters around Oneta hold a huge variety of sport fish, including monster Giant Trevally up to 50kg and Bluefin Trevally, fierce Dogtooth Tuna and Yellowfin Tuna, beautiful Red Bass, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Paka Paka and Wahoo to name a few.

The ocean isn’t the only thing worth exploring around Ono Island. The land is equally as beautiful and we maintain trails behind Oneta Beach running along the ridge line behind the resort and over to a neighboring beach.  

Or try a more strenuous three hour hike across the uninhabited island of Vatulutu. The trail winds its way from the bay side of the island through untouched Fijian rainforest, emerging on the other side for incredible views of the Naqoro passage.

And don’t miss a hike to the waterfall on Kadavu. A moderate trail winds through farmland and jungle to emerge as a 40 ft waterfall thunders down from the volcanic ridge. Bring a swimsuit and jump in this natural swimming hole.

Go on an exciting adventure with our outrigger canoes - some of the only outriggers in all of Fiji. Use our prized Scorpius (one man) and Tempest (two man) outriggers to cover some distance and experience the beauty of Ono from a unique perspective.  

We’ve put together guided tours that paddle around Ono or a longer adventure along the nearby island chain. Tours are weather dependent and you do have to pass our capsize test!

Come witness thousands of Brown and Red Footed Boobies that return to Yabu Island every day at sunset to roost. Yabu Island is one of the main seabird rookeries in Fiji and is only 15 minutes away from the resort.

Kayaking and paddleboarding are easy ways to explore the beauty around Ono Island. Paddle through the mangroves nearby to a local swimming hole or explore some beaches on your own. If you run out of steam, we will pick you up with our boat.  

Paddle boards of different sizes are available at the resort. We recommend using them at sunrise when the water is calmer and the golden light sparkles on the water, illuminating the coastline. It’s one of the best ways to start your day at Oneta!

Oneta’s beach is a gorgeous place where you can swing in a hammock, read a book and enjoy the quiet serenity of an authentic Fijian outer island. But there are also many beautiful hidden beaches tucked away on surrounding islands that are worth a visit.

We’ll pack you a lunch and drop you off for your own romantic private beach day. Beach days for larger groups can include a Tatavu - tasty Fijian style grilled fish served right on the beach spiced with bush lime and Fijian peppers.
