It takes a clarity of intention to travel to the outer islands and purposeful confidence to embrace the adventures of such a remote destination. The group of guests that gather nightly at the Oneta dinner table to discuss the day’s activities almost always end up having a lot in common. While we are a family-oriented operation, we are also realistic about the challenges of a remote resort, so we kindly request that all interested families wait to come visit until all children are over the age of 8 years.

Community around Ono island
There has always been a strong community around Ono island consisting of the five villages on Ono island (Naqara, Nabuwalu, Vabea, Waisomo, and Narikoso) plus the villages of Buliya and Dravuni nearby. We have developed close ties with these villages, and strive to honor and respect their cultural and social traditions in all of our interactions. The resort is quite fortunate in this regard to be blessed with a General Manager who has an intimate knowledge of the local ways and whose first language also happens to be Fijian.
Guests can participate in the larger community around Oneta by requesting invitations for a village or school visit. Church attendance on Sundays can also be arranged.

A Fijian community maintains its strength when all members of it do their best for the benefit of all and Oneta Resort strives to do its part.
In conjunction with the Oneta Foundation and in close consultation with village leadership, we try to make positive contributions within the larger Ono community. Recent projects include donations of building materials; food assistance; the construction of a school library at Vabea; desks and chairs for the Natusara school; fundraising for a solar power system for the Naqara elementary school; and general assistance for local fundraising, medical needs, transportation, and community events.
